our history...our
mission
Until
the Womens Health Center of West Virginia opened in 1976, a
full range of reproductive services for women simply was not
available in West Virginia. Volunteers throughout the state worked
together to create the Womens Health Center. They built it upon
a philosophy of personalized care. Organizations and individuals
donated both time and money to the Center during its first two years.
The Womens Health Center is now supported by grants, donations
and fees.
The Womens Health Center provides affordable, high-quality reproductive health services. The Center meets the special needs of women and teenage girls, regardless of their income, by providing a comprehensive system of health care. The Womens Health Center offers wellness education and serves as an advocate for reproductive freedom. The staff respects womens dignity, the right of reproductive choice, personal values, and confidentiality.
The Board of Directors of the Womens Health Center includes its consumers. In this way, the attitudes, customs, and politics of West Virginia women are represented on the Board and are incorporated into the services provided by the Center.
The Womens Health Center helps women identify ways to pay for services. Most gynecological services are available free to eligible women. West Virginia Medicaid is also accepted.
