The Family Planning Centre was set up in 1983 by Dr. ChristineHealy to provide a fertility control service sensitive to women'sneeds. Minor gynaecological operations including abortions areperformed under either general or local anaesthesia. The staff of theclinic are fully sympathetic to your anxieties and difficulties andwill try to give you as much help and advice as possible.
If you are undecided about your abortion or would like furtherinformation or counselling before you make your decision, pleasediscuss your situation with the staff. If you decide to proceed withyour pregnancy, you will be given help in making the appropriatearrangements.
Your personal details and your visit to the clinic are entirelyconfidential and no disclosure will be made to anyone without yourpermission.
We also do IUD fittings.
The Family Planning Centre is a registered day procedure centreapproved by the Victorian Government.
Abortion and the Law
In 1969 Justice Menhennit ruled that abortion was legal to protectthe life or health of the woman. This has made abortion available toall who need it, each year about 20,000 Victorian women have anabortion. BUT abortion will only be your right when laws against itare removed from the Crimes Act.
Charges
All medical fees are bulk billed to Medicare. A theatre fee ischarged to cover the cost of the equipment and the drugs used intheatre.
