BEFORE YOUR ABORTION:

  1. Call our clinic at least one day in advance for an appointment. If you have insurance we will look into your coverage and benefits at this time. Your appointment is confidential and you will be given a code number so no one can find out information about you without your permission.

  2. If you have a morning appointment do not have anything to eat or drink after midnight the night before your surgery.
If you have an afternoon appointment eat a light breakfast before 7:00 am. NO dairy products, NO meat. Do not eat or drink after 7:00 am.

  3. Payment is due before the procedure. We accept credit cards (VISA, Master Card, American Express, Discover) or money order. The credit card holder must be present to sign. We do NOT accept personal checks.

  4. Bring any documents requested (insurance card, claim form, pay stub, student ID, public aide card, etc.)

  5. Bring a maxi-pad and an extra pair of underwear.

  6. Wear socks, a short-sleeve loose T-shirt, and warm comfortable clothing.

  7. Do NOT take aspirin products from now until two weeks after your procedure. Non-aspirin products such as Ibuprofen or Tylenol are fine. Aspirin products trigger heavier bleeding.

  8. Please shower on the morning of your surgery. Do not wear make-up, jewelry, nail polish, contact lenses, false nails, retainers, and/or tongue piercings. Dentures/retainers will need to be removed before surgery

  9. You will need to have someone bring you to the clinic, stay with you, and drive you home after the procedure. Please make these arrangements ahead of time. You may NOT drive after the procedure.

  10. We prefer you bring only one other person with you. No children are permitted.

  11. Plan on being at our facility for 4-6 hours.

Patient Quote: "Everyone made me feel comfortable and at ease on a difficult day. Thank you, you were all great."

POST-ABORTION CARE:

  1. Drink plenty of fluids and avoid alcohol while taking medications.

  2. Rest in bed the day of the procedure. You may resume normal activities the following day, but avoid any strenuous activities, exercise or heavy lifting (over 15 pounds) for 2 weeks.
** We can give you an excuse for work or school (including P.E.) **

  3. Do not drive, operate heavy machinery, or make important decisions for 24 hours.

  4. Monitor your temperature for the next week. If it is 101° or higher, contact the clinic.

  5. For the next 2-3 weeks, until after your follow-up exam:
    A) Do NOT immerse yourself in water including tub bathing, hot tubing, swimming, and douching. You may shower at any time.
    B) No sexual contact or intercourse.

  6. Do not use tampons for 6 weeks to avoid the risk of Toxic Shock Syndrome.

  7. You may bleed lightly, heavily or not at all in the next 2 weeks. It is normal to pass small blood clots, no larger than a half-dollar. The color of your discharge may vary between bright red, pink, and dark brown. If you experience heavy bleeding (saturating 2-3 pads in one hour) or pass egg size clots or larger, contact us immediately.

  8. Your menstrual period will return in 4-8 weeks.

  9. If you experience cramping, you may take a non-aspirin product. Ibuprofen works best. Do not use a heating pad on your abdomen.

  10. You need a follow-up exam in two, no more than three weeks, after your surgical procedure. You may schedule with our facility for a follow-up appointment.

  11. Please call our office if you have any questions. Our staff is available to assist you with emergencies after hours by contacting the answering service.
